Caliban is a renegade Black Wizard who is confronted by Glenshadow and two other wizards, killing the latter and pulling out his own heart rather than being killed. His heart comes into the possession of Kolanda Darkmoor, the two making a pact that gives Caliban power over her soul in exchange for magical assistance. He is killed by Zap in 339 AC at the battle of the bridge at Sky's End.
